Seek Righteousness

Did you know there are 92 verses in the Bible that mention the word righteousness?  Being made correct by divine declaration...it's that important!  Zephaniah 2:3 tells us "...Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord's anger".  Romans 3:21-22 goes a little further "But now a righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made known...This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe".  Our verse this week goes one step more:
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled"
Matthew 5:6

With these words, Jesus promised that those who hunger and thirst for this righteousness will be filled.  We will be blessed.  However, we do not obtain wealth and happiness as blessing...but hope and joy that are not based on the circumstances of this world.  They are not temporary, but everlasting!  We are blessed with the Kingdom of Heaven.

    Sometimes we're blessed with smaller things when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. Sometimes it's just the joy of fellowship with others as we seek God's Word to permeate our lives. This morning I was struggling with my desire to be a hermit and isolate myself (which is dangerously easy for me to do). But, after much internal struggle, I decided what I wanted more was to feed my hunger and thirst for righteousness. I am so glad that I can look back at my morning and know that I spent it exactly where God wanted me.
